Is there a difference between tiredness and fatigue?

Yes, we can all feel worn out, tired and sleepy after a busy day fulfilling our family, work, and social commitments. After a good restorative night’s sleep of 7-9 hours our bodies and brains are ready to handle the next day’s tasks.

Fatigue is used to describe physical/ and or metal weariness that continues beyond normal tiredness.

After what should be a restorative night’s sleep do you:

  • still lack energy and motivation?

  • have low mood and depression?

  • have trouble concentrating?

  • feel anxious or irritable?

  • have muscle weakness?

  • have insomnia?

If these symptoms continue for longer than two weeks it is important for you to figure out why? and work to resolve the causes. There maybe a medical cause to fatigue other than insomnia such as hypothyroidism, heart failure and obstructive sleep apnoea.
